Lunch room Changes

Lunch room Changes

Everyone wants to finish their meal with a dessert. Well at Kennedy High School, every student has been taken away the privilege to have a dessert. They have taken away all of the tasty parts to the meal. This has made a lot of students very upset. To me, I am not a very big dessert fan but I did like the mini pieces of cake they offered the previous years. So in this blog, I am speaking mostly for the rest of the student body.
I do believe that the school shouldn't have taken away the desserts. I think that everyone should be able to have one dessert per meal. What is one dessert going to do to you? Obviously the school thinks that we shouldn't be having dessert. They must think we are becoming fat or something...
I know that they are trying to get people to eat healthier but by just taking away the desserts at our school, it’s not going to make us healthier. They have also made each portion of food smaller. Each meal has a smaller amount than what it has been the past few years. I know the salads at the school are only half full which doesn’t make sense because salads are actually healthy for you. So why would you make a smaller portion of food that’s actually good for you? A lot of the students are wondering why a lot of the food in the lunchroom has changed and it should be fixed…

Receiving Allowance

Receiving Allowance

How much money do you receive from your parents each week? Very little would be my answer to this question. I hear very often from fellow peers that they receive a certain amount of money each week from their parents. I ask them why and they say just because. In my head, I think that is ridiculous. No one should just get paid for doing nothing. I am not just saying this because I think this, but I do a lot around my house and I get paid zero. Do I complain about this? Yes sometimes. I complain when I have spent my own money a lot in one week. I will say something like, “Mom, Dad, I do so much around the house and get paid nothing.” They then laugh and go on with whatever they were doing…yes very annoying.
But then I guess I should say I do understand why they don’t pay my sisters or I allowance. They are trying to teach us kids that we have to have a job to earn money. My parents don’t want us receiving money from them and spend it all the time when we could have a job and spend that money. Since I do the dishes, always have my room clean, dust, and vacuum the house, I wish that I would get paid at max $8 a week. I would not expect them to give me any money for anything if I was paid $8 a week. I am paid $0 now and I still pay for my own food if I decide to go out for dinner. I am sure that my parents would give me money if I asked them too, but I feel guilty. I know that 99% of the time I do not ask for money.

You are probably wondering how I go out to eat and do things with friends if my parents don’t hand out money to me. I will babysit and that is how I make my money. I babysit quite often actually and it is a very easy job for what I am being paid. The family that I babysit for the most pays me between $12-$18 an hour. Yes, that is a lot I know. I hear it from my parents every time I come home from babysitting and tell them how much I have made. I am very lucky with that deal and it makes me want to never say no to them when they ask me to babysit. The girls are very well behaved too so really, I enjoy babysitting them.

Hearing people around me that are being paid $10-$20 a week for not even doing chores makes me feel so proud of myself. I feel like I actually work for my money and not just get money handed to me. I pay for everything, when I go out to eat with friends or want to buy a new outfit I will pay with my own money. I will admit it does suck having to pay a lot of things on my own but in reality it makes me realize what the actually value of money is and how many people out there take money for granted.

I probably have made this blog sound like my parents do not pay for anything in my life, but they do. They pay for all of my sports that I am in which costs a ton. There are tons and tons of clothing orders in my high school and club sports that they have to pay for. There are also all the tournaments and hotels that I have stayed in over the years. My mom will once in a while ask me if I want to go shopping and that is the time that she will pay for what I want. It is just the by myself things that I have to pay for. I will pay myself to attend movies, go shopping, go out to eat with friends, and anything that is something I do on my own. Other than that, my parents have me covered. It is just very irritating hearing that someone is being paid allowance when they do nothing.

Homeschooling good, bad?

Homeschooling good, bad?

Would you want to be homeschooled?  If I were to answer that question I would definitely say no. I have always felt bad for the students that are homeschooled. But at the same time, I have been jealous of the students who are homeschooled. I say that for many reasons.
Being homeschooled excludes you out of a lot of different activities. If I were homeschooled I wouldn’t be half as social as I am now. I would not be able to meet the people that I have met now. Also I would not be around all the activities the school offers. Such as football games, pep assembly’s, homecoming court, dances, exc. You would be able to attend some of the events, but it wouldn’t feel the same when you don’t know many people there.
There are some good things about being homeschooled that I have found myself. I have become jealous of homeschooled kids for this main reason…I had a girl on my high school volleyball team that was homeschooled. She was in the district of Kennedy so that is why she was able to play on the team. After practice, she would once in awhile tell us that she didn’t have to go to “school” tomorrow. She was able to wake up at 8 or 9 every morning and start school in her own home. That is the cool thing about being homeschooled. You don’t have to wake up so early in the morning, and you’re in your own home having “class”.
When it came down to home volleyball matches at the school I bet it was tough knowing that your at your own school and don’t really know anyone in the student section cheering you on. I know that I wouldn’t like that. Having friends that you have known that go to the school would be helpful. They could take you to those football games, dances, and other activities the school offers. But not having friends that already go to the school would be very tough, especially very tough to become involved in the activities.
I just know that when I am older and decide to have kids, I will never make my kids be homeschooled. I am not saying homeschooling is a bad thing. I just wouldn’t want my kids to be sheltered from the school and the students in the school. I think that a way the school could get the students homeschooled involved is to invite them to an activity. Let the school body know who the homeschooled students are so that students can help them feel more comfortable to attend school events.

BE INVOLVED!

BE INVOLVED!

Everyone should be involved around in their school. Being involved is very important in high school. You learn a lot of different things being involved. Your communication skills improve a lot just from being around people. You can be involved in your school a lot of different ways.
One simple way to be involved is to just attend school activities. Attending a football game is one very simple way to be involved. If you want to be more involved around your school, you can do other things such as join the high schools student government. Student government is an awesome way to become involved around the school. They help with different activities throughout the school and are looked up to.
If you are into sports, being part of a sports team is also a grand way to become part of your school. It is very difficult to be involved in your school if you don’t try to. I know one thing I wish I had done is tried to be one of the officers of my grade. I think being an officer leaves a big impact on you and others at the school. Also when that time comes it is very good to put on your college application. Applying to colleges is something that anyone who wants to go to college has to do. If you have activities to include on those applications the better your chance is.
Being involved is a great thing because you are always busy. I see some kids that don’t have friends just because they don’t want to go anywhere or do anything. I think that is very sad because they are missing out on a lot of activities. Sitting at home playing Xbox or just sitting there all day is not healthy for anyone. I believe that everyone should go out and experience high school and the activities it brings.

Solution to the problem

Solution to the problem

By: Madi Meier

There is a solution to the parking at Kennedy High School. Like I stated in my previous blog, there is a parking problem at our school that needs to be fixed. At student council people talk about what the administration could do to change problems the school faces. I know the parking topic has come up in a discussion before, but nothing has been done. I do have a solution to this problem and another problem also.
During the spring time, I hear several of the soccer girls complaining about having to drive fifteen minutes to their practice. They aren’t allowed to practice on the soccer field here at Kennedy because the administration doesn’t want the field to become ruined for their games. Also the football team technically doesn’t have a nice field to practice on.
So, my solution to these irritating complications is that we tear out the soccer field. Yes, I did just say that. We make what the soccer field is now, a new and larger parking lot for students to park in. As of where the soccer field goes, we tear off our “football” field by the softball diamonds and put turf in. That way both the soccer and football teams have an improved practice and game field. This will then solve many problems that are occurring in the school.
Yes, this is going to cost a lot of money but it will help a lot of people out also. The soccer team will not have to waste gas by driving fifteen minutes away for their practice. Also the football team would have an improved field to practice on. And the most important solution will be that students will have more spaces to park in.
If there are enough spots for the whole student body in the south, north and the new lot I think that each student should be “assigned” a parking spot. I have seen at schools before that have numbers in each parking spot. The number indicates that there is a specific person that is assigned to that spot. This will help even more, because then people wouldn’t have to rush to school to get a spot, they would already have their own assigned to them. If there wasn’t enough parking spots for each individual to be assigned a spot, then the students who would want a assigned spot could have to pay a decent charge to that privilege.
I think taking out the soccer field and building a better field for both the soccer and football teams would be an awesome way to solve many problems that are occurring. The parking would increase a ton, which everyone is looking for!!

Talk about no parking....

Talk about no parking....

By: Madi Meier

The parking lots at Kennedy High School are awful and terrifying. As I drive into the south lot all I think about is get out of my way. It is way too crowded and everyone hates it! The school needs to build a new parking lot for students to park in so that every student at Kennedy will have a spot to park. The school offers parking spots in the north lot but very few of them. If there were another parking lot for students to park in, we wouldn’t have to use all three of the churches. Having to not park in the churches will help a lot of Kennedy families financially. Every student who parks at the churches have to pay to park there and I think that is ridiculous.

Kennedy High School has had this problem for a very long time now. You would think that it would be resolved by now but no it hasn’t. Something needs to be done because obviously it isn’t just me who thinks it is a problem. I honestly do not know why I am complaining about this now because they will not be able to build a new parking lot before I am graduated. Though, I do believe that the future Kennedy students would appreciate a parking lot that would fulfill their expectations. Sometime in the next few years, this problem needs to be fixed otherwise there will be more complaints about it later.
